ABOUT M.Y. THEATRE AND FILM CO
Facilitators and directors, Jill Young and Steve Mitchell, have been working independently in professional and amateur theatre, education, social services and with people with disabilities for the last 25 years. They met whilst directing and musically directing and in 2010 formed M. Y. Theatre Company.
At the time a number of young adults and late teens identified a lack of theatrical experience and opportunity for their age group, so M.Y. Theatre Company was formed to provide a professional performance training environment, initially for them . We have since staged numerous shows, musicals and tours including our own work, recently entered into the Buxton Fringe, and attracted a wider range of adults and abilities. We now also have an active youth section and work in schools delivering theatre in education.
In spring 2012 we initiated our first integrated drama session, working on issue based acting and improvisation. We now have cross generational, transition projects(which we cantake into schools to educate and enable youngsters with and without disabilities) we have created a new Stoke based choir of disabled adults and their friends and carers, who won the Spirit of the Festival Award at the Berterelli Foundation sponsored Regent Academy Creative Arts Festival 2012, and more drama, choir and dance groups in Burton, Uttoxeter, Tamworth and Stoke including most recently an over 60s movement and singing group.
In December, the Stoke Integrated Choir joined forces with M.Y. Theatre Company and the Regent Academy Choir in an integrated evening of festive songs and drama, performed at the Victoria Hall, Hanley in the presence of The Lord Mayor of Stoke, Terry Crowe. This was so successful that we have now formed M.Y. Inter-Theatre Company which works in the community and education and with integrated groups of able bodied and disabled people as well as providing interactive workshops for schools and other organisations.
Our members are involved in every aspect of performance, from acting, singing and dancing through writing, directing, staging and performing musically all the way to sourcing media exposure and publicising our up and coming events.
M.Y. Theatre and Film Co are always looking for talented, enthusiastic performers to join us. Whether your passion is for acting, singing, dancing or all of the above – we would love you to come and see what we can offer you. And just as importantly, what you can offer us!
